Well known President of Donegal Boxing Board Peter O’Donnell presented Cathaoirleach of Donegal County Council Cllr. Gerry McMonagle with a specially engraved shield on behalf of the High Sheriff of Worcestershire and Martin Paddy Brennan MBE.

This silver shield was presented to Peter O’Donnell as President of the Donegal Boxing Board when he led a delegation of young Donegal boxers to take part in the England Vs Ireland tournament in Worcestershire earlier this month.

Peter O’Donnell explained that this shield was specially engraved with the following text “in recognition of the building of relationships across our two countries  Donegal in the Republic of Ireland and the province of Worcestershire in England”.  The inscription continues “long may it continue in the efforts to build a brighter future for our young boxers by Stephen Betts the High Sheriff of Worcestershire and Martin Paddy Brennan MBE”.

This tournament was held in association with The Paddy Brennan Boxing Academy and the academy’s founder Martin Paddy Brennan has strong family connections with Donegal as his father is originally from Lifford.  The Paddy Brennan Boxing Academy received an MBE for volunteer groups in 2015 for helping more than 2,000 young people.

Cathaoirleach of Donegal County Council Cllr. Gerry McMonagle congratulated Peter O’Donnell and his team for the wonderful work that they are doing not just in the promotion of boxing but in building strong positive relationships across the globe.

“Receiving this type of gift on behalf of the county is very important and it is a great recognition of the positive work that Peter and his team are doing on behalf of Donegal.  They are great ambassadors for Donegal and through these types of events not only is Peter building a positive reputation for the county he is also offering young people an opportunity to build their confidence by experiencing new places and meeting new people.”
